| Attendance Management Program (Coordinators)
This one-day workshop is required training for all Coordinators. As a Coordinator, you will become a more supportive supervisor by learning how to talk to your team and individual team members about the importance of being at work regularly and on time. You will learn the appropriate use of the CLS benefit of paid sick time and review all aspects of CLS Paid Sick Policy and Procedures.

| Augmentative (Alternative) Communication Skills (Core)
This workshop is an introduction to using augmentative or "alternative" communication methods with individuals who are non-verbal. Facilitators introduce you to various augmentative communication materials; how they work; and how to customize methods for the individuals you support. Examples include the use of "Bliss" boards or pictures and the use of customized sign language or body language.
Leaders use role-plays and other exercises to show how individuals who are non-verbal can be encouraged to participate in conversations.

| Backcare and Lifting Technique Sessions
Learn some tips and strategies to prevent the risk of injury during support work.
Practical and interactive half-day sessions to learn about:
- injury causes and prevention,
- back strengthening exercises,
- correct body mechanics during lifting and physical handling of people,
- one and two person lifts and transfers and
- moving and positioning in beds and wheelchairs.
Qualified instructors lead the session in a safe and controlled environment.

This is a one-day retreat that was designed for longer-term CLS employees, but is open to all.
The day is an examination of where you currently are in terms of your work and personal lives; where you want to be; concerns around the concepts of growth and change; discussions on activities within and outside the CLS which can enhance your satisfaction; and a practical guide on how to set and achieve your goals.

| CLS: A Way of Thinking
CLS: A Way of Thinking-A Three Day Experience in Beliefs, Values, and Approaches to Support.
This seminar will comprise 3 days of presentation, activities, videos and dialogue. The purpose is to ensure that new employees have ample opportunity to discuss, understand and reflect upon the CLS beliefs, values and approaches to support. Various family members, Board members, management and employees will act as facilitators for this rich and interactive seminar.
Completion of the full three days is a requirement for new employees.

The CLS is committed to fostering a workplace where everyone is treated with respect and not subjected to discrimination, harassment or unfair treatment. This is a high ideal, and we encourage your thoughts and participation on this topic.
To explore this issue further, join an interactive panel discussion dedicated to "creating and maintaining a respectful workplace" at the CLS.
Our open forum will address issues such as:
- Human Rights and discrimination
- Race
- Age
- Disability
- Harassment
- Sexual orientation
Other issues can be included and we encourage you to bring comments and questions that are important to you to this forum. It is a safe place for proactive discussion. A blend of group discussion and exercises will be part of the workshop.

| Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI) (Core)
A two part series. Eight hours of instruction in total, providing opportunity for questions and discussion. Participants must complete both sessions to obtain certification.
Purpose: "Care, welfare, safety & security for all."
Topics include recognizing the warning signs; the 4 stages of crisis development; the 5 steps of empathetic listening; basic principles of personal safety; transport techniques; dealing with fear and anxiety.

| Docusystem Workshop (Core)
A workshop based on National Crisis Prevention Institute course material. The objectives of this four hour session are for participants to: understand the importance of a complete documentation system; identify steps in documenting an incident; describe factors which may affect a person's memory of an incident; and produce clear, organized, accurate an objective incident reports. This interactive session incorporates role-plays, written practise exercises, learning games and group discussion.

This course provides a one day look at the various components of effective communication both within and outside the CLS. You will practise "active listening" skills, body language techniques, team-building strategies, and ways to resolve conflict in the workplace. There are discussions on how to better communicate with families and networks, co-workers and supervisors, office staff, government bodies and the community at large.
